Harsh critique welcomed! Please zoom.

Edit: Fixed the bottom half/tail. Removed main reef as it was just distracting. Added black gradient to the bottom to keep all the light towards the top of the image. Other small changes. Thanks for those of you who gave feedback!

Thank you so much for the DD! I am honored! :D!

Surface Light by AbbeyMarie is a triumph of lighting and shade. The stock choice is excellent and intriguing, and the artist blended elements seamlessly to tell a fantastic story. Be sure to check out the other gems and many in-depth tutorials found in this artist's gallery! ( Featured by Aeirmid )
As far as photo manipulations go this was done somewhat flawlessly, I thought it was a painting. The lighting and colors work well together. Where it falls apart for me is the execution of the tail manipulation. Towards the end of the tail it looks like you just got lazy and left it blank. Though that's not so much the issue because it's only noticeable if you look at it from different angles on a monitor. The tail fin however, doesn't match with the rest of piece (on the mershark?). It looks like you tried to give it a motion blur effect and ghost effect to create a sense of movement. Instead, at least for me, the blur distracts me and I zero in on it as if it were a mistake. The lighting on the sea floor doesn't match the rest of the scene in a couple places. I would take some time to makes these edges a little more crisp and match the smoothness of the sharks and woman if possible.

Long story short, I think the top half is exceptional. The bottom half falls apart.

Dear Artist:

RE: Search for Original Artist Elflanea

We have a great opportunity for students to gain job related experience and get pertinent work experience. We are an app gaming company, Pegasus Productions, a fantasy game producer. We are looking for passionate artists to showcase their talents. We are holding a summer of fun contest in order to find the right talent to create original artwork for the initial starter deck of game cards for the app & story book. The epic story of Elflandea is story of survival in a fantasy world that parallels our own; yet it is still filled with magic and monsters and demonstrates unique concepts that have never been seen before. We are also planning on creating a TV show for this story too.

We are looking for artists that can add particular details and images that are part of the story line and script. The winners of this contest will have an opportunity for long term art production. And will be commissioned to create the starter deck, 1st thru 3rd place and a total amount of $1200.  We will then need a story board and there is an additional budget for this project as well as more cards in the future.  The students can review these popular games Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, Hell Fire or Reign of Summons as examples for the quality of art that we are looking for.  We are not looking for cartoons or Japanimation, we are looking for realistic art style.

For further information we can be reached at Elflandea@  You can learn more about the requirements by joining us on Facebook at Elf Original Art Submissions, this is a closed group and you need to ask admission into this group.  On the site you will find the application in the notes section and also examples of the art and style that we are looking for, you will also be introduced to the story with the first 25 pages of script.…
